Did you know the building & construction sector accounts for 37% of global emissions
(2023) ?
To mitigate the environmental impact of this sector, bio-based products are a promising solution especially when sourced from secondary bio-based materials. What if tomottow’s buildings were made from today’s waste ?
The CIRCBUILT project aims to develop a high value-added pathway for bio-based waste sources of lignocellulose to build products that otherwise are used in lower value applications such as energy, landfill, feed.
3 novel intermediate components will serve as basis to the development & validation of 4 different types of products 100% made from secondary bio-based materials for the construction sector: thermal insulation panels; construction panels, adapting cooling windows; indoor acoustic panels. Our missions :
- To target a large volume source of lignocellulosic secondary bio-based materials from wooden biomass & non-wooden biomass such as straws/stalks from cereals, oil crops
- Mapping the number of targeted industries (agricultural, agrifood, forestry) throughout Europe
- Bringing together 4 research institutes, 3 universities, and 5 industries, this 36-month project will develop and validate innovative components up to TRL 5
- The goal is clear: unlock the potential of lignocellulosic waste and create high-value alternatives to low-value uses (energy, landfill, feed)
- Together, we are paving the way for circular and low-carbon construction
